Treating Acne
Acne is an inflammatory skin condition that is usually found on the face, but can also appear on the neck, shoulders and back or chest. It is a common condition that affects mostly people in their teenage years and early twenties, but it is said that just under half of women in their 40’s may become prone to acne, largely as a result of hormonal changes. Acne of any form is caused by a build up of trapped dead skin cells and oil in the pores. The health of the cell wall can also have a big effect, if it becomes weak and ruptures this can have an effect on bacteria spreading. Acne can vary from blackheads and whiteheads to deep cystic spots. It is important to resist the urge to pick or touch the pimples excessively, as this can cause further inflammation, and the infection to spread or become further contaminated from the passing of debris from the fingers.
When we look at the skin and see a problem it is normally a symptom of an underlying cause.
This cause will be a combination of both internal and external factors:

Internal Factors: hormones, diet, health, medication

External Factors: topical products, over stripped skin is the biggest contributor to over production in sebum, the sun, picking the skin, the environment and much more

Predisposed: Problem skin is hereditary, if a family member has had acne; you will have a predisposition to this condition
Mix all the above together and it can cause havoc. Some of you will have the odd spot, some will have a selection and unfortunately some will have aggressive acne.
We may recommend looking at current stress levels, diet, water intake, sleep patterns and supplement intake. Treating internally is as important as topical care. Treating skin with this approach is essential for skin health today and in the future.
