While it is considered a natural approach with no side-effects, ear candling does carry risks. Having a lit candle inserted into the ear requires expert handling and supervision to avoid potential problems such as a punctured eardrum or burns to the face, hair, scalp or ear.
It is also advised that the treatment is not carried out too soon after any form of ear surgery and if you have any of the following:
cysts in the ears
high blood pressure
ongoing ear or sinus infections
cochlear implants
allergies to any products in the candle
inflammation in the ears
perforated eardrums
grommets or tubes in the ears
acute otosclerosis (an abnormal bone growth in the middle ear)
mastoiditis (an infection of the mastoid bone behind the ear)
difficulty breathing around small amounts of smoke
Generally, ear candling is a safe and relaxing experience – as long as the treatment is not used excessively or carried out incorrectly. This is why it is important to seek out a qualified practitioner who is able to carry out ear candle treatment professionally.
Ear candling is a holistic and complementary treatment – it is therefore not designed to treat/cure any particular ailment. It is a natural approach and many people say they find it helpful for maintaining general health and well-being.
Those who may benefit from ear candling include those struggling with:
migraines
hay fever
anxiety and stress
post flying and driving pressure
swimmer’s ear
asthma
vertigo
yeast infections
colds and flu
sinusitis
parasites
itching in the ears
Quite different from conventional wax candles, a Biosun Hopi ear candle is actually a cotton tube made from premium quality ingredients, including pesticide-free and untreated cotton, pure beeswax, honey extract which contains the following vitamins: B6, thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid. Minerals: calcium, iron, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, sodium and zinc, St Johns Wort, Sage and Camomile – a herb which has anti-inflammatory and astringent properties which helps to restrict blood flow and mucous secretion and helps relieve mental stress, anxiety, nervousness and excitability.
Clients are advised to remove makeup and jewellery before the treatment starts. Fully dressed the client lies down on their side, with their head supported on a pillow so the auditory canal is vertical. After approximately 10 minutes the process is repeated on the other ear. This is followed by a period of relaxation and a head and facial pressure point massage concentrating on the sinus areas.
The process involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear When lit, the ear candle generates a gentle heat which produces a light suction action while the rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage This is known as the “chimney” principle and works by drawing impurities gently to the surface, where they can be removed.
The lit candle generates a pleasant crackling sound and a warm, comfortable feeling, a soothing, calming experience which protects any irritated areas.
Most deposits evaporate and are carried away through the candle ‘chimney’, but some are found in the condensed candle wax residue after it is removed from the ear. None of the candle residue actually goes into the ear.
Hopi ear candles should not be used if there is any inflammation or infection in the ear and are not suitable for people who have had recent ear surgery or those with ear grommets or tubes, perforated ear drums or allergies to any of the products in the candle.
Anyone who is receiving medical treatment for any ear condition should always consult their doctor first.
At Nu-Yu we only use the Biosun Ear Candles as they are only ear candles in Europe to have a Medical Device Classification.
